Discover the power of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math at Camp Skimino’s new STEM Center! Located in the beloved Norfolk Lodge, the Center offers a variety of hands-on, interactive activities in STEM subjects for all Girl Scout levels. With brand new equipment, educational materials, and STEM kits, Girl Scouts can earn badges in astronomy, robotics, mechanical engineering, and automotive engineering. For a more freeform learning activity, Girl Scout troops can rent and fly drones with the guidance of council staff. There’s even a chance to get moving with the Eyeclick OBIE Projector. The projector casts interactive, motion-sensitive games on the floor and wall, where Girl Scouts complete educational challenges by moving, leaping, tapping, and throwing soft objects at the projected images. Solve math problems, practice space knowledge, and program robots through the OBIE’s fun games!
Girl Scout troops can reserve the STEM Center through several rental packages. Package options are varied to fit every troop’s STEM interest and experience. STEM Kits must be ordered at least two weeks in advance of Center reservation to account for processing and delivery. Packages are priced at a ‘per Girl Scout’ basis therefore rates vary based on attending Girl Scouts.
The STEM Center was made possible by generous grants from the Hampton Roads Community Foundation’s Vibrant Places grant, the Alison J. and Ella W. Parsons Fund, Rotary District 7600, Newport News Shipbuilding, the Warfield Foundation, and BASF Corporation. The knowledge, skills, and attitudes that STEM programs impart are invaluable for a Girl Scout, especially for a field where women remain underrepresented. We thank each of these supporters for helping us bring this vision to life.
This is just the beginning! Even more additions are on the horizon; Craft and Tinker Badge Kits will be available in Spring 2026!
