It’s heartwarming to see our Girl Scouts contributing to the community and helping our furry friends, and it’s even sweeter when made possible by the Girl Scout Cookie Program! Girl Scout Troop 30’s love for animals shines bright, especially with troop leader, Angela Darden, who is a veterinarian, and three aspiring veterinarians among troop members. These Girl Scouts teamed up to support the Chesapeake Humane Society’s new Crisis Boarding Program and earned their Girl Scout Bronze Award while making the world a better place.
Their troop learned about the humane society’s new program that helps more pets find homes, and were eager to help the shelter spread the word throughout the community. Plus, the Girl Scouts rolled up their sleeves and did all the digging and construction needed to install a “Little Free Library” at the shelter, learning new skills along the way.
This is Troop 30’s second year partnering with the Chesapeake Humane Society and they’ve been proud to donate supplies, like dog food and blankets, whenever possible. They were excited to have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on an organization their troop supports.
These Girl Scout Juniors teamed up to make a difference and simultaneously grew their own abilities. Wendy Ireland, co-leader of Troop 30, said that the Girl Scouts learned skills like “teamwork, community involvement, philanthropy, budgeting, long-term planning, and building/construction” throughout the project. Girl Scout Cookie proceeds earned by troops help to fund Take Action and highest award projects — just like this one.
Congratulations, Troop 30!
