There’s never been a problem this problem-solver couldn’t tackle. And there’s never been a glass ceiling that kept her from going to the top. Girl Scout alum Amy Reineri, a licensed architect who owns Casa Architecture is a “can do” person who has found success in a career field that, when she first started, was very much a boys’ world. She says, looking back, “I always wanted to prove to my profession that women are just as capable.”
Amy has grown her business to be successful and made many friends along the way. She finds time to share her architectural know-how with many nonprofits that have included Habitat for Humanity and Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast. She served on GSCCC’s Board not long after starting her company and has drawn plans for multiple buildings at Camp Apasus, Camp Darden and Camp Skimino. She was also responsible for designing the observation tower at the Chesapeake Girl Scout office for Camp Outback. Amy says the time she has spent helping out the Girl Scouts is time well spent. She thinks more people could benefit from donating their time and efforts to a worthy cause like the Girl Scouts.
“I know from first-hand experience that Girl Scouts learn to take responsibility to change things when they’re wrong and to do the right thing, regardless of financial consequences,” she said. “They are serious about their Girl Scout Promise and Law!” Amy has always considered her time as an active alum as a chance to continue to make an impact and make the world a better place. And at a time when so many people are looking for new experiences and opportunities in life, including jobs, Amy believes volunteering is a chance to do something you feel good about.
Amy lives in Newport News with her husband David. She is currently a member of the American Institute of Architects, the International Facilities Management Association, and the Peninsula Home Builders Association.
