We celebrate moms throughout the year here at GSCCC! Girl Scouts offers a powerful avenue for mother-daughter bonding, leadership development, and shared memories. Whether moms participate as troop leaders, parent volunteers, or event attendees, they play an essential role in guiding girls from kindergarten through high school.
From the time Cameron Waite joined Girl Scouts as a girl, it quickly became an important part of her life. Years later when her own daughters also joined, Girl Scouting grew into a long-term commitment of mentoring and leadership. While she is a busy professional and busy mom, she always makes time for Girl Scouts!
In 2012, her older daughter, Bella, was invited to join a multi-level troop as a Girl Scout Daisy. When the troop’s Daisy leader stepped down, Cameron stepped in and quickly learned what it meant to serve as a Girl Scout volunteer. Over the years, she supported Bella’s journey in Girl Scouting all the way through to Ambassador. Bella was involved in GSCCC’s Advocacy Committee work and attended many Council and community events, including Legislative Day in Richmond, and was often tapped to sing the national anthem at awards ceremonies and State of the Region lunch programs.
During that same time, Cameron’s younger daughter, Emme, also joined Girl Scout Troop 305, and Cameron became her troop leader. Cameron has worked to partner with GSCCC to create meaningful opportunities for the girls in her troop and service unit to build confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills. Troop 305 has proudly participated in community ceremonies and public events, including conducting the flag ceremony at the 2025 Volunteer Kickoff where GSUSA National President Noorain Khan was a special guest speaker. The troop was excited to have their photo taken with Noorain and got to have some private discussion time with her as well.
One of the troop’s most memorable experiences was traveling to the Washington, D.C. area to visit Google headquarters. The girls had the unique opportunity to attend the launch of a partnership between Girl Scouts of the USA and Google, giving them a firsthand look at how technology and leadership opportunities are expanding for young women as well as learning more about promoting internet safety. (Girl Scouts of any level can earn this special patch!)
Cameron is proud of her time with Girl Scouts—as a Girl Scout, a parent, and a troop leader—and describes the experiences as deeply rewarding.
“Guiding girls as they grow into confident leaders and watching them take advantage of opportunities that broaden their horizons continues to be one of the most meaningful experiences of my life!”
