Girl Scout volunteer Joan Price, co-leader of Daisy Troop 398 and mom of two Girl Scouts, was present at the June 6th opening of the first ever carrier USO Afloat event on the USS George H.W. Bush stationed at Naval Station Norfolk. In celebration of the event, sailors on board had the opportunity to test out multiple gaming systems sponsored by the USO and snag boxes of Girl Scout Cookies while milling about the hanger bay!
Joan was there as a supporter of the USO, something she does occasionally to help out her sister who has worked for the USO for the past ten years. Her spouse is the Executive Officer on the USS Dwight D Eisenhower, so supporting the Navy and its sailors has long been a part of her life. The USO and Navy have been working on funding/finding space to build out USO Afloat centers on each carrier in additional to dispersing Rapid Response Gaming Kits to smaller naval ships across the globe.

Gift of Caring Cookies were also distributed during the USS George H.W. Bush’s Resiliency Day in late May where cookies were handed out for push-ups! All in all, approximately 1250 boxes of cookies were given out that day.
Joan, who spent many years as a Girl Scout growing up (her mom was her troop leader) is very familiar with the annual Girl Scout Cookie Program. She knows how important those Gift of Caring cookies can be in sending sweet messages of kindness. “I don't know how many cookies were given out,” she said, “but there were a lot! As a Girl Scout, I was so excited to see the cookies being given out and the smiles they helped create—it was a pleasant surprise for everyone.”
Joan’s troop had fun participating in this year’s Girl Scout Cookie Program and were happy to have their customers purchase 62 boxes of Gift of Caring Girl Scout Cookies!
