A Place for Girls serves as the headquarters and program center for the Girl Scout Council of the Colonial Coast. In addition to office and business operations, the facility includes a shop with Girl Scout merchandise and several activity rooms including:

  • Performing Arts Room
  • Crafts Room
  • Industrial kitchen
  • Fun Room (ideal for troop sleepovers and specialty workshops)
  • Conference area
  • Fitness trail
  • Nature Center (The Outback)

The Outback, an 8.5 acre nature area located behind A Place for Girls, is the ideal place to enjoy a hike, get up and moving on the fitness trail, climb the outlook tower, canoe, or picnic in one of the four pavilions on the property. The Outback is also a designated site on the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail.

Adjacent to A Place for Girls is The Lodge, an annex property that offers overnight accommodations along with an in-ground, salt-water pool.

Rooms at A Place for Girls, including the space at The Lodge, may be reserved by Girl Scout members by using accessing the Volunteer Toolkit.

The Peninsula Service Center is located in a retail space in Newport News, Virginia. The center has offices, a conference room, break area and bathroom facilities along with a shop for retail purposes.

The Elizabeth City Field Center is located on North Dyer Street in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Used as a troop meeting place for over fifty years, the center continues to offer members a place for meetings and trainings. The center has a large meeting area, small kitchen and restroom facilities. There are no regular office hours scheduled and no retail operations at this location.

Owned by Elizabeth City and maintained by the Department of Parks and Recreation.

Camp Outback

Camp Outback is offered as a day camp experience for girls each summer. The Outback, an 8.5 acre nature area located behind A Place for Girls, the Council’s headquarters and program center located in Chesapeake, Virginia. Campers can enjoy hiking on nature trails, be challenged on the fitness trail, climb the 50 foot outlook tower, canoe on Bells Mill Creek or participate in outdoor classroom activities in one of the four outdoor pavilions located on the property. The Outback is a designated site on the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail

Camp Apasus

Camp Apasus has been providing Girl Scouts with fond memories for more than seventy years. Located in Norfolk, VA, this camp has served as an outdoor retreat from the busy city. Camp Apasus borders Mason Creek allowing campers and visitors the opportunity to canoe and explore nature on the water. Additionally, campers will be able to enjoy an archery range and five camp sites - three with platform tents, fire circle and picnic tables.

For indoor activities and sleeping, groups can use the Sertoma Lodge which is complete with a kitchen and bathroom facilities that include showers. A covered pavilion across from Sertoma serves as an outdoor program and picnic space. During the summer months, an above-ground pool is made available to day campers.

Camp Darden

Climb towards new heights at Camp Darden. Located in Courtland, VA (just a few minutes from Franklin, VA), Camp Darden is the place for adventure. Here, you'll find a swimming pool, boating lake, modern bathhouses, a dining hall, and a new outdoor climbing wall.

Camp Darden has 105 acres of beauty with sleeping space for more than 240 campers. The property is an ideal destination for single troops or larger groups. Modern and rustic facilities include the dining hall, cabins, low ropes course, lodges, a yurt, screened adirondacks, u-pitch tent area, screened shelters, platform tents, and more.

Camp Skimino

Camp Skimino is a year-round destination located in Williamsburg, Virginia. The camp is centrally located near several famous local attractions, which include Busch Gardens Europe Amusement Park, Colonial Williamsburg and Williamsburg Premium Outlets Mall.

At 98 acres and with a sleeping space for 360, Camp Skimino is a great destination for single troops or larger groups. Modern and rustic facilities include: air-conditioned cabins, platform tents, lodges, u-pitch tent area, screened shelters, indoor climbing wall, dining hall and program center.

Camp Burke's Mill Pond

Located in Gloucester, VA, Camp Burke's Mill Pond is the place to go for adventure. The camp features eleven tent sites, a pond for canoeing, a nature trail, a pool, and a lodge (the Treakle Cabin) for indoor activities and camping. Camp Burke's Mill Pond also doubles as one of the few historical mills in the Gloucester area.

Are you a Girl Scout member who needs to rent a space for an upcoming meeting or celebration? Our facilities are available for rent online. Simply log into the Volunteer Toolkit and select  "Renting Locations/Facilities" under the "Troop Leadership" category.
