Bronze Award Spotlight: Spread Kindness the GS Way
Girl Scout Junior Chloe of Troop 2515, a fourth grade student at Simonsdale Elementary School in Portsmouth, knows the importance of doing kind acts for others. To earn her Girl Scout Bronze Award, she chose to share positivity in benefit of Mooseheart Child City & School — a residential facility in Milwaukee caring for children and teens — for her Take Action project. Mooseheart is located on a 1,000-acre campus 38 miles west of Chicago and is a home for kids in need of an alternative living environment and better opportunities, from infancy through high school. She distributed the bracelets to adults and students at Mooseheart campus on a recent trip for the Moose International Convention.
In preparation for the trip, she crafted colorful rubber band bracelets, each carrying a message of kindness, and thoughtfully included instructions and extra bands so others could continue the kindness chain. She distributed her bracelets to over 100 students and adults, brightening everyone’s day and encouraging them to pass on the kindness.
Chloe’s mother and GSCCC volunteer Brooke Archambeau said, “Chloe learned that you really can brighten someone’s day and make the world a better place by giving someone a small token of kindness. To demonstrate that she understood sustaining the project and passing it on, she included 30 bands and a clip with instructions about how to make a bracelet and brighten someone else’s day by passing it on to them. The bracelets can now be found in over 20 states, as representatives from all states were present at the conference. The over 100 students at the Mooseheart campus, ages 4-18, were overjoyed and some even made their bracelet right away to share with another adult at the conference.”
Chloe’s journey to earn her Girl Scout Bronze Award highlights her compassionate spirit and dedication to spreading kindness, qualities of a true Girl Scout! Her efforts have now touched lives across more than 20 states, demonstrating how small acts can create a ripple of positivity, just like the caring community at Mooseheart that nurtures and supports children in need.
Here are Chloe’s instructions to make your own bracelet!
KINDNESS – PASS IT ON BRACELET
- Wrap one band around the pointer and middle fingers, twisting it in the middle to form a figure 8.
- Add another band on top and pull each end over the band you added. Connect the C-clip to the first band loop you created.
- Continue until you have used all of the bands.
- When you get to the last band, connect the C-clip to each end to tie off the bracelet.
- Pass the bracelet on to someone to brighten their day and spread kindness!
