On June 1, 2024, nearly 100 GSCCC Girl Scouts were honored during the Girl Scouts Who AMAZE Celebration! Our annual girl awards ceremony was held this year at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center in Norfolk. At this inspiring celebration, we recognized Girl Scouts who have led our community towards a brighter future by earning Girl Scouts’ highest awards—the Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards. From creating literacy enrichment programs to protecting our environment, this year's honorees proved that there is no challenge too big or need too small for a Girl Scout to tackle.
The event began with a flag ceremony presented by Girl Scouts from Troop 511 and Troop 256, and the National Anthem was sung by Girl Scout Ambassador Bella W. Welcomes were given by the President of Norfolk State University Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston and by Norfolk City Council Member Andria McClellan. Gold Award Girl Scout alum Sarah Buck, Senior Manager Public Affairs – Market Expansion for Cox Communications, emceed the event. She spoke about the experiences she had while earning her Girl Scout Gold Award. She shared some of the ways that setting goals and overcoming obstacles as a Girl Scout has helped her become a leader.
She congratulated the Girl Scouts in attendance for proudly serving their communities. A special congratulations was given by Buck to the Gold Award Girl Scouts who have now joined her in the elite sisterhood of changemakers.

Following the presentation of the highest awards, GSCCC Board Chair Carolyn Pittman announced several special Council recognitions. Girl Scout Senior Cailyn Y. received the Buck Harris Award; Gold Award Girl Scout Paige G. received the Maylea Beasley Love & Laughter Scholarship; Gold Award Girl Scout Kendal K. received the She Believes She Can, So She Does scholarship; and Girl Scout Ambassador Kasia G. received the Girl Scouts of Courage, Confidence, and Character Scholarship.
For the first time during a Council-wide awards celebration, Girl Scouts graduating high school and bridging to adult years in the Movement took part in the ceremony.
The Girl Scouts honored in this year’s program each have defined themselves as leaders dedicated to improving the world, for all. When a girl completes the requirements needed to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award, Silver Award, or Bronze Award, she proves that she's got what it takes to build a better today—and tomorrow. Congratulations to those who were recognized and a special thank you to all of the volunteers who support Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast.
Many thanks to Norfolk State University for hosting the event on their campus! We also extend thanks to the following supporters and sponsors: Fulton Bank; Wall, Einhorn, & Chernitzer; and Wegmans.
