Several Girl Scout Brownies and Juniors from GSCCC let their creativity shine as they answered a call for the community’s participation in Norfolk Botanical Garden’s 2023 “Beakitecture” exhibit. Builders, architects, organizations, local artists, students and individuals were invited to apply to have their wildest bird house creations on display for thousands of daily visitors of Norfolk Botanical Garden’s Enchanted Forest to experience.
Girl Scouts from Troop 223 participated by creating a ten unit birdhouse which they named the “Rainbow Retreat.” To accomplish this huge feat, the girls needed a good plan and the magic of teamwork. With help from her dad, Girl Scout Junior Velina built a total of 10 birdhouses, uniform in size, and the Brownies of Troop 223 colorfully prepped the houses to display “GIRL SCOUTS,” once assembled all together.
Julia, a Girl Scout Cadette in Troop 671, also designed and built a birdhouse for the exhibit, named “Red Light, Green Light. 1, 2, 3!”
Norfolk Botanical Garden, one of GSCCC’s program partners, is currently hosting 60+, original, whimsical and one-of a kind-birdhouses, for a limited time, including these Girl Scout creations. From the tiniest house to larger-than-life human-sized birdhouses, the Enchanted Forest (one of the most visited locations in the garden) is home to these community-based creations now through September 30, 2023.
