Girl Scouts have a commitment to making the world a better place and they shine their brightest when they take positive action to make a difference! Girl Scouts who complete Take Action projects that meet specific requirements can earn Girl Scouts’ highest awards—the Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards. On June 4, 2023, more than 300 guests attended the girl awards event, The Power of Girls, held at Norfolk Collegiate School to celebrate girl leadership. Proud parents, fellow troop members, volunteers, and friends all applauded the award recipients in attendance.
Gold Award Girl Scout alum Marisa Beck, who owns and operates Latitude Climbing + Fitness, a climbing gym with three Hampton Roads locations, emceed the event. She spoke about earning her Girl Scout Gold Award as a teen and applauded the girls on successfully completing Gold Award projects that included more than 80 hours of community service. The awards were presented by GSCCC CEO Tracy Keller and Board Chair Marisa Porto as each girl crossed the stage.
During the event, 18 Girl Scout Ambassadors from our Council were recognized and pinned for their dedication in earning their Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor and achievement in Girl Scouts. By using everything they’ve learned as a Girl Scout to make actionable change, these Girl Scouts defined themselves as leaders who are dedicated to improving the world, for all. In addition to Gold Award recipients, while not all were in attendance, more than 60 Girl Scout Cadettes were honored for earning the Girl Scout Silver Award and nearly 200 Girl Scout Juniors were recognized for earning the Girl Scout Bronze Award.
In addition to the recognition of highest awards, several Girl Scouts received special Council awards and scholarships. Girl Scout Junior Peyton G. received the Buck Harris Award; Gold Award Girl Scout Morgan L. received the Maylea Beasley Love & Laughter Scholarship; Gold Award Girl Scouts Lauren S. and Brianna O. both received the She Believes She Can, So She Does scholarship; and each graduating Gold Award Girl Scout received a Girl Scout lifetime membership thanks to the Helen Kattwinkel Lifetime Membership Endowment and the Duffy family in memory of their daughter, Gold Award Girl Scout Kaitlyn Duffy.
