Dig into the hidden world beneath our feet in this hands-on gardening and STEM adventure at Cullipher Farm Market! Designed for Girl Scout Daisies, Brownies, and Juniors, this interactive farm program introduces you to the science of healthy soil and the important role it plays in growing healthy plants in both large scale farms and small home gardens.
You'll discover that soil is alive with worms, fungi, microbes, and insects that help gardens and crops thrive. Compare healthy and unhealthy soil, investigate the tiny underground organisms that support plant growth, and learn how farmers and gardeners use the components of STEM every day to care for plants. After the lesson, Girl Scouts and their adults will climb aboard their wagon for a guided tour of the farm to observe seasonal crops and see firsthand how healthy soil supports growing plants. Then, enjoy a hands-on soil exploration activity before planting your own sunflower seed to take home and grow.
This engaging experience helps Girl Scouts explore STEM careers while building gardening and agriculture knowledge through observation, investigation, and planting. Activities support the Daisy, Brownie, and Junior STEM Career Exploration badges, as well as the Junior Gardener badge by exploring farms, observing crops, experimenting with seeds, and learning about plant selection. (Badges are not included.)
