NORFOLK — It’s camp season in Norfolk, and this week, dozens of kids are enjoying the first round of the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office’s annual summer camp.
The free camp, which reached full capacity shortly after registration opened in April, is held at the Girl Scouts’ Camp Apasus off Granby Street. Open to Norfolk children ages 8 to 12, the camp blends summer fun with valuable life lessons.
Campers take part in hands-on activities like archery, canoeing, and fishing with park rangers. They also head out on field trips to places like the Chrysler Museum and the Elizabeth River Project's Learning Barge. There are crafts, water games, and even educational sessions from the Virginia Attorney General’s Office as part of the Virginia Rules program.
