Girl Scouts is all about making new friends—and keeping the old! By growing your troop to ten or more members, you can give youth in your community the opportunity to try new things, build forever friendships, take on adventures, dream big and have fun doing it.

Check out the tips and resources below for ways you can engage new families, welcome new girls, and expand your network of volunteers.

Earn a $25 Program Credit!

Start with a minimum of 10 Girl Scouts (youth) in your troop by October 1, 2026.
Increase the number of Girl Scouts (youth) by at least two by November 30, 2026, to earn a $25 program credit!

Free Add-a-Friend Patches!

All troops that participate will be provided with free patches – one per Girl Scout in your troop!

BONUS: All troops that add two Girl Scouts (youth) by November 30, 2026, will be entered into a drawing to win a $250 program credit. Drawing will take place on Tuesday, December 2! Two troops will be selected. Winners will be informed via email, and an announcement will be made on GSCCC’s Rallyhood.

Ten Strategies for Growing Your Troop toggle arrow

List your troop in the Opportunity Catalog. Make sure other families can find you when they sign up through myGS.
Distribute and post flyers at schools and in the community. See if you can host an activity table at Back-to-School Night with girls from your troop, so you can interact with families and show them first-hand what Girl Scouting is all about.
Share troop openings on social media. (Feel free to use the images provided below.) At the end of your post, be sure to let people know how to register their girls.
Use word-of-mouth tactics to share experiences. When girls share the details of their troop's adventures and trips with their friends at school or church, other girls will want to come along.
Ask your girls to wear their sashes or vests to school on meeting days. No matter how old your girls are, wearing their uniforms out and about is a powerful way to recruit new members for your troop. It always starts a conversation!
Spread sisterhood in your community. It’s one thing to talk about what Girl Scouting is all about; it’s another to experience it! What kinds of events or activities can you help out with? What can you invite other members of the community to participate in with you?
Use local media to share troop activities and achievements. Everyone loves an uplifting story, and you’ll inspire potential new members with all they can achieve through Girl Scouts. (You can also share your story with GSCCC for an extra boost!)
Have parents share their Girl Scout experience. Just as your girls will share fun stories about their Girl Scout experience, so will their parents or caregivers! Consider inviting the parents and caregivers in your troop to a meeting, or create a special event just for them. Give them something to talk about with their own social circles!
Host a bring-a-friend night! Bring-a-friend events are a favorite among troop leaders and girls alike. When girls see how exciting a Girl Scout event can be, they will not want to miss out on the next one...and the next.
Recognize the role your girls play in growing their troop. Thank the girls who helped bring new members to your troop with a small gift or reward—or submit their activities towards earning the GSCCC Recruiter patch!
