Gold Award Girl Scout Taylor, a Camden Early College graduate and a member of Girl Scout Troop 57, has achieved the prestigious Gold Award, the highest honor in Girl Scouts! Her initiative resulted in an innovative educational website designed specifically for young women in her community, addressing crucial topics around menstrual health and pelvic pain. Taylor devoted over 100 hours to research and collaboration, working alongside Meghan Vance, PA-C of Coastal Carolina Family Practice to develop a curriculum of engaging learning modules tailored for girls aged 9-18.
Taylor said, “The root cause of the issue my Gold Award addressed was the limited resources available to young women about pelvic pain and the normalization of menstrual health. I addressed the root cause of the issue by creating an informational website to help girls in my community learn more about their menstrual cycle. Young women are not understanding that when pain levels are high, this can be a sign of an underlying problem compounded during their menstrual cycle. My website has instilled confidence and comfortability in girls who have explored it. In my website I included multiple lesson blocks to teach the content as best as possible.”
Her efforts have fostered a space where girls can comfortably explore and understand their bodies and their menstrual health. “Based on my surveys I collected, girls are learning more about their bodies than they thought possible.”
Way to go, Taylor—your passion and hard work are making a real difference!
