Happy 20th anniversary to Girl Scout volunteer Mei Stukes, who has been a dedicated volunteer for two decades with GSCCC! Mei stepped up to volunteer when her two daughters became interested in Girl Scouting. She has served in many roles, including as service unit coordinator for Service Units 605 and 120. Along the way, she has been a program coordinator, cookie chair, and adult recognitions coordinator within the units. Mei has also dedicated volunteer time beyond the service units and served as a National Council Delegate in 2014 and has been a member on GSCCC’s Board Development Committee. When she’s not in the office, she serves as an outdoor facilitator for low ropes courses at Camp Darden and Camp Skimino.
“My favorite memory is when I traveled to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2014 as a GSCCC National Delegate and I was surrounded by thousands of Girl Scout advocates and passionate leaders striving for the same goal—to celebrate the year of the girl and to make the world a better place,” she said. “It was an amazing experience that I will never forget. I have been so blessed to have been a part of this wonderful movement for so many years, and to have shared it with my own daughters is priceless. Once a Girl Scout, always a Girl Scout!”

A lifetime member, Mei has been recognized with several awards including the highest award an adult may receive in Girl Scouting, the Thanks Badge. Active in her church, she has received the CROSS AND FLAME award from the First United Methodist Church and the P.R.A.Y. Religious Mentor (Baptist denomination) pins for middle and high school programs.
“Girl Scouts changed my life as a youth, and I truly believe in what we do,” she said. “I want to continue to encourage girls to reach their potential, to be confident and independent. I also have tons of lifelong friends because of my Girl Scout circle. It makes me happy to give back to my community and I know it’s a place that all girls will be welcomed and accepted.”
A former teacher, Mei currently works as an educator at the Virginia Air and Space Science Center and helps lead Girl Scout programs there (like the upcoming STEM CONNECT event on March 16). She also serves on the Citizens’ Unity Commission for the City of Hampton.
