JoAn Berry is a star among our extraordinary volunteers here at GSCCC. Her calendar is filled with Girl Scout activities throughout the year, such as helping within her service unit as a product chair, assisting other service units with outdoor program and an assortment of trainings, and serving as a Council National Delegate. Her commitment to Girl Scouting has been a lifelong passion; from girlhood, where she spent years in the program, to motherhood, where she served as her daughter’s Girl Scout leader, JoAn has always had Girl Scouting in her life.
“Girl Scouts makes me happy,” she said. “It inspires me. As a product program coordinator, I’ve seen girls grow up through Girl Scouting. I’ve seen Daisies who were extremely shy and reserved become confident leaders as Juniors. This really makes my heart sing to think I was part of making that happen.”
When JoAn volunteers, the fond memories of her own years in the program are not far away. Those memories include having her mom as her Girl Scout leader, enjoying Girl Scouting with her three sisters, and camping in tents with no floors that, during one trip, created a flood in their tent that prompted a swift evacuation in the middle of the night!

A few years ago, JoAn became a member of the Juliette Gordon Low Society after hearing National Girl Scout volunteer and founder of the Society Dianne Belk speak. “I believe so strongly in the mission of Girl Scouts,” JoAn said. “I have been entrusted with a huge responsibility — the future of our girls. As Girl Scout volunteers and adults who care about Girl Scouting, we give girls the power to be the movers and shakers of their communities — of the world. It is extremely important and a role, whether that is of a volunteer or donor, we should be proud to hold.”
Thank you, JoAn, for keeping Girl Scouting so close to your heart!
The Juliette Gordon Low Society was established to thank and honor friends of Girl Scouting who choose to make Girl Scouts a part of their legacies and a beneficiary of their estate plans. With their foresight and planning, members ensure that our council can provide future generations of Girl Scouts with opportunities to reach their full potential.
Providing a planned gift to Girl Scouts of Colonial Coast can include listing the Council as beneficiary of a will, living trust, life insurance policy and so many other ways; learn more and join the Juliette Gordon Low Society today.
