Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast (GSCCC) recently announced a community service initiative, Spread Kindness, which invites their members and the community to come together to spread kindness in the fight against hunger. This campaign has launched just in time to recognize National Hunger Action Month, coming up in September. Showing kindness has been proven to increase self-esteem, empathy and compassion, and to improve mood. Research also shows that helping others can also decrease blood pressure and stress levels.
Peanut butter, high in protein, is one of the top requested items since it is ready to eat, nutritious, shelf stable—and spreads easily, just like kindness! Girl Scouts are invited to take action during the month of September and “Spread Kindness” by donating a jar of peanut butter (or other seed/nut butter, plastic containers only) in observance of National Hunger Action Month and by earning the Spread Kindness patch. Girl Scouts can drop off donations at A Place for Girls in Chesapeake, or at one of these participating Hampton Roads Dairy Queen or Dairy Queen Grill & Chill locations. Youth who come in their Girl Scout uniform will earn a free Mini Blizzard for their donation!
Thank you to our partners in kindness:
