A Place for Girls serves as the headquarters and program center for the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast. It is situated on 9 acres of land on Cedar Road in Chesapeake, Virginia and officially opened its doors in 1996.
In addition to office and business operation accommodations, it includes a shop where Girl Scout merchandise can be purchased and several activity rooms for program and meeting use.
The center features a performing arts room, a crafts room, industrial kitchen, a Fun Room for troop sleepovers and specialty workshops, a conference area, a fitness trail and a nature center referred to as "The Outback." A summer day camp also operates in the center.
The Outback, an 8.5 acre nature area located behind the center,
offers girls and adults opportunities in the outdoors. Members and
visitors can enjoy hiking on nature trails, be challenged on the
fitness trail, climb the 50 foot outlook tower, canoe on Bells Mill
Creek or picnic in one of the four pavilions on the property. The
Outback is also a designated site on the Virginia Birding and Wildlife Trail.
Adjacent to A Place for Girls is The Lodge, an annex property that provides for overnight accommodations along with an in-ground, salt-water pool, both added in 2010. The Lodge was renovated using green technology and provides a perfect opportunity for girls to learn about the use of environmentally friendly construction.
Rooms at A Place for Girls, including the space at The Lodge, may be reserved by Girl Scout members with advance reservations and fee payment.
