Leaps & Bounds with Dominique Dawes

On February 29th, Girl Scouts and Girl Scout supporters from all over the area met at the Hampton Roads Convention Center for a warm breakfast and inspirational words from uniquely ME! national spokesperson and Olympic gold medalist Dominique Dawes.  The fund-raising breakfast, called Girl Scouting in Leaps & Bounds, was great success and a definite inspiration for all who attended.

World Thinking Day 2008

Every year on February 22nd, Girl Scouts and Girl Guides around the world celebrate World Thinking Day.  On this day, girls gather to think about their sister Girl Scout and Girl Guides and to celebrate diversity and international understanding.  The day often includes activities with food, native dress, songs, and games from countries outside our own.  Here are a few pictures from World Thinking Day events around our council!

Techno Girl 2008

On Saturday, January 26, nearly 1200 Girl Scouts and leaders took over the Virginia Air and Space Museum, located in Hampton, Virginia, for a night of learning and experimentation at Techno Girl 2008. The event was sponsored by the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast, a United Way agency that serves almost 16,500 girls in southeastern Virginia and northeastern North Carolina.  Girls conducted experiments to learn about composting, crystallization and electricity, learned about light, engineering, and how planes fly, and had the rare opportunity to meet a female NASA scientist who taught them about gravity through a hands-on activity, and Jennifer Boykin, Vice President of Process Excellence at Northrop Grumman.
