Council Level Activities

Girl Advisory Board
A group of Girl Scout Seniors & Ambassadors selected by their service units to help plan and carry out service unit and council events for other Girl Scout members. Two GAB members from each service unit meet at the Council level once a month from October to May. The first meeting will be a casual opportunity for members to get to know each other, share ideas and establish GAB group community standards. If you are interested, contact your program & training Volunteer Field Administrator or Teen Program Specialist Alisa Reed. Service Unit Girl Advisory Boards are developed and run at the Service Unit level. Volunteer Field Administrators can contact Alisa Reed, Teen Program Specialist, for suggestions or assistance. Girls will need to fill out an application
including one non-family reference.

are due September 30, 2009

Choose the activities you like and attend a career fair! Talk to people in all areas of work and college girls so you can get an idea of what it will all be like! This day is all about you and the things you like to do so choose wisely and have fun!

Program Aid
Girl Scouts in grades 7-12 can attend Program Aid core and module trainings. Program aides are Girl Scouts in grades 7-12 who have completed an 8 hour training course focused on working with younger girls. The training course includes a core training and a specialization module to gain a basic understanding of Girl Scouting, developmental characteristics of younger girls; selecting, planning and presenting age appropriate activities. Program aides receive a pin after completing the core and specialization training.



Shoot for Silver
Go for Gold

Get information on the steps towards earning your Girl Scout Silver Award! This includes prerequisites, projects and reporting. Bring items for note taking and the GSCCC Silver Award packet (available on the Girl Awards page of this web site). Leaders and consultants are welcome.

Training is free but all participants must register! All are welcome!

Think you might like to earn the Girl Scout Gold Award? This workshop includes information on choosing and planning a Gold Award project, completing the application and answering questions you may have. Training is open to Girl Scouts 14-17, leaders, consultants or anyone interested. Bring items for note taking, GSCCC Gold Award packet (available on the Girl Awards page of this web site).

This training is free but all participants must register!

Adult courses
At the age of 14, girls may begin attending such as First Aid, CPR, New Leader series, etc.

Each year, Girl Scout Cadettes, Seniors, and Ambassadors have the opportunity to apply for travel adventures. For more information click here

Community Volunteer Service Bar

  • STEP 1 - Complete the Community Volunteer Service Bar application found on the council web site under forms, girl awards.
  • STEP 2 - Application must be delivered to Alisa Reed, Program Specialist, Teens.  Be sure all forms are marked this way and delivered by email, fax, postal mail or hand delivered to one of the council offices.
  • STEP 3 - Within 3 days of the receipt of the application, an email will be sent to the girl letting her know the application has been received and will be processed.  The application will take 2 - 3 weeks to be processed.  If after 3 weeks you have not heard anything from a staff member, contact Alisa Reed at (757) 547-4405, ext. 1264.
    The application must be approved before the girl may begin her hours
    (no exceptions).
  • STEP 4 - When your Community Volunteer Service Bar application has been approved you will receive a letter in the mail and may begin the training
    and volunteer hours.
  • STEP 5 - After the hours have been completed mail the time log sheet to council and allow up to 2 weeks for your voucher to be mailed.

Notes:
• All 3 Community Service Bars must be approved through council before the girl can start her hours. No hours before the application approval process can be used towards any community service bar.
• Community Service Bar in Girl Scouting does not require 4 hours of training but does require approval through council before starting hours.
• Please refer to page 128 in the Cadette/Senior handbook.

Trips & Adventure

Europe  2011
Girls will spend 10 great days in London, Paris and Switzerland and visit two Girl Scout World Centers, Pax Lodge in London, and Our Chalet in Lucerne, Switzerland. This trip is packed with tons of fun and educational activities. The current price is $3,271 for girl participants and $3,636 for adult participants. The deadline to apply for this trip is November 9, 2009.
All girls must be at least 14 years old by July 1, 2011 to participate in this trip.
