Details: The Girl Scout Cookie Program is a respected American tradition that delivers so much more than cookies. The program teaches girls how to become successful, confident businesswomen. The sale is the largest business and economic literacy program for girls. Girls gain experience in advertising, budgeting, goal-setting, people skills and teamwork. The proceeds from the sale support local troop activities and program services offered by the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast. Through the Gift of Caring program, customers may also request that cookie purchases be donated to a favorite charity. Over the past five years, with the help of the USO, the Girl Scout Council of Colonial Coast has sponsored a council-wide USO Gift of Caring program that has resulted in 10,000 boxes of cookies annually to be given to military men and women, many who serve overseas.

  Cookies in the News

So far we've gotten some great media coverage for the cookie sales!  You may have heard the DJs talk about the cookies on 97.3, 96.1, 104.5, and 94.9, just to name a few.  Cathy Lewis host of HearSay on WHRV and a 2007 Women of Courage, Confidence, and Character honoree, chatted with Communications Director Marcy Germanotta on-air.  Marcy's also been on local Clear Channel Stations speaking with Doc Christian. Communications Specialist Elizabeth Farry went on-air with Randy Jones on the Elizabeth City State University station 89.9.

We're tackling television coverage as well. Amanda B, of Troop 5178 of Hampton, joined Elizabeth on WAVY TV 10 at Noon. Coming up, we'll also have coverage on WGJT and top cookie seller Katie B will join us on WAVY's program Bottom Line. We've also had multiple spots of Chesapeake's Channel 48 WCTV.

As far as newspapers go, we've been out in full force. Articles have appeared in the Beacon, the Clipper, the Suffolk Sun, the Suffolk Herald, the Poquoson Post, Tidewater News, and the Daily Press. Look for upcoming articles in Tidewater Parent and the Daily Advance.

Keep watching, listening, and reading for more coverage on Girl Scout Cookies!
