Brittany W, Juliette - "Helpful
Hugs"

For Brittany's Gold Award
project, she collected over
450 stuffed animals.
She then donated them to the
Pasquotank-Camden Emergency
Medical Services and the
Elizabeth City Sheriff's
office to be given out to
children involved in
emergency situations.
Another batch of stuffed
animals was donated to the
Elizabeth City police
station who will give them
out to children involved in
situations of domestic
violence. |
Torey B, Troop #1152 - "Doggone
Good Reading Program"

Torey's Gold Award project
helped children improve
their reading skills and get
over their fear of reading
out loud by reading to a
dog! Torey put a lot
of effort into training her
dog then sitting with
children and reading.
Torey saw a definite
improvement in the
children's reading skills
and confidence! |
Kelsey H, Troop #583 -
"Pillows For Patients"

 |
Kelsey's Gold Award Project
involved sewing over 60
"Tooth Fairy Pillows" for
patients at CHKD. She
wanted to put smiles on the
faces of children fighting
illnesses. She was
able to bring them a little
bit of magic and hope that
the Tooth Fairy would visit
them, even in the hospital! |
Brittany F, Troop #883 - "A
Little Pick Me Up"

For Brittany's Gold Award,
she put together 80 packages
containing various items for
children at St. Jude's
Hospital.
The packages were
personalized by gender and
age group and contained
items such as blankets,
coloring books, school
supplies, and games. |
Katie F, Troop #1012 - "Fleece
For Families"

 |
For Katie's Gold Award
project, she turned a hobby
into a way to help families
affected by fires and
natural disasters. She
made over 20 fleece blankets
which she gave to the
Poquoson Chapter of the
American Red Cross to
distribute to victims.

Faith J, Troop #1012 - "Suitcases
for Foster Kids"
|
 |
Faith's Gold Award involved
collecting, decorating and
filling 30 suitcases with
personal need items for
foster children. She
donated all the suitcases to
the Hope Haven
Children's Home in Virginia
Beach.

Lauren S, Troop #1508 - "Blankets,
INC"

Lauren showed her love for
animals through her Gold
Award project. She
handmade fleece blankets
which she then donated to
the Norfolk SPCA. She
hopes that her blankets
provide shelter animals with
comfort while they await
adoption.

Awards Jenny W,
Juliette - "Read All About It"

Jenny put together a "Read
All About It" program at the
Pasquotank-Camden Library.
Jenny created the reading
program to encourage girls
her age to read. She
invited Girl Scouts to hear
guest speakers talk about
why reading and writing is
so important in their
careers. |
Troop #435 -
"Chesapeake Bay Treasures"

Troop #435 worked in the
Chesapeake Bay to create the
popular new interest patch,
"Chesapeake Bay Treasures."
The new patch plunges girls
into the biology, ecology,
history, and conservation of
the Bay.

Bronze
Awards Troop #5103
|
 |
Troop #5103 of Norfolk
wanted to help their
favorite furry animals as a
part of their Bronze Award.
The girls raised money for
pet beds for the Norfolk
Animal Care Center.
They were able to raise
$260! |
Troop #1212
|
 |
Four girls from
Troop #1212 of Gloucester
earned their Bronze Awards.
They worked individually on
projects like organizing a
SWAP making workshop for
fellow Girl Scouts, spending
time with the elderly at a
local nursing home,
developing and implementing
a childcare program for PTA
meetings, and making fleece
dog and cat beds for a local
animal shelter. The
girls are already planning
their Silver Award. |
