Troop #435 honored as 2008 Hampton Roads Youth Group Volunteers

Congratulations to Virginia Beach Senior Girl Scout Troop #435 who were honored as the Hampton Roads Youth Group Volunteers for 2008!  Volunteer Hampton Roads held a special awards ceremony at the Waterside Marriott in Norfolk to honor the 2008 award recipients.  The ten girls of Troop #435 were recognized for their efforts to preserve the Chesapeake Bay.  For their Silver Award, the girls created a patch called Chesapeake Bay Treasures.  The patch plunges Girl Scouts into the Bay's biology, ecology, history, and conservation.  It encourages girls to get down and dirty to not only help our environment, but to get more involved in science.  Troop #435 plans to continue their work with the Bay for their Gold Awards.

Cookie Jingle Winners--LIVE on 3 Max Media Radio Stations!

Brownie Troop #53 won the GSCCC Cookie Jingle Contest and now they're stars!  The girls visited the Max Media radio stations to hear their jingle debut on three stations: 92.9 The Wave, 97.3 Eagle, and Star 94.1.  As a special surprise, the girls got to introduce their jingle on each station.  Troop Co-Leader Sandi Mazzilli also got some air time by telling the listeners about the contest and our cookie sales.  You might have also seen the girls on their very own billboard on 264 going into Norfolk.  Way to Make It A Hit, Troop #53!

WAVY-TV 10 Noon News and Bottom Line

The staff at WAVY are always very supportive of the Girl Scouts.  This year we promoted our cookies twice on their station.  Once during the noon newscast with a top cookie seller from Troop #5178, Amanda B. (left photo) and another time on the program Bottom Line with Senior Girl Scout Katie B. of Troop #97 (right photo.)

WVEC 13's Dialogue

WVEC anchor Lasalle Blanks is a huge Girl Scout Cookie fan.  When Senior Girl Scout Erin G. of Troop #435 and Communications Specialist Elizabeth Farry appeared on WVEC's show Dialogue, Lasalle couldn't even wait for the end of the interview to break into a box of cookies!
